£45, one working day
Basic service
The service most bikes actually need. We go over everything that affects whether the bike is safe and pleasant to ride, adjust what can be adjusted, and tell you plainly what needs replacing.
What is included
Full safety check, frame and fork inspected for cracks, dents and damage
Brakes adjusted, pads and braking surfaces checked for wear
Gears indexed front and rear, limit screws set
Wheels checked for play at the hub and given a quick true in the stand
Tyres checked for wear, cuts, embedded glass and correct pressure
Chain measured with a wear gauge and lubricated
Every bolt checked to the right torque, including stem, seatpost and chainring bolts
Drivetrain wiped down so the new lubricant has somewhere clean to go
A short road test by the mechanic who worked on it
What is not included
None of this is hidden. If your bike needs any of it, we will tell you and price it before we touch anything.
Replacement parts of any kind, these are quoted separately
A full degrease and strip of the drivetrain, that is the full service
New cables, chains or brake pads, though fitting them is included if you want them
Wheel building, or rebuilding a badly buckled wheel
Hydraulic brake bleeding, which is £28 per brake on top
Bearing overhauls in the hubs, headset or bottom bracket
Anything structural, if we find a cracked frame we stop and show you
Turnaround
One working day. Drop the bike in during the morning and it is usually ready the following afternoon.
If we find something that needs a part we do not have on the shelf, we will ring you, agree it, and tell you the new collection day. We would rather move the date than fit the wrong part quickly.
If the bike has not been touched in years
Book the full service instead. A basic service on a badly neglected bike turns into a list of quotes rather than a finished job, and you end up paying twice.
Do some of it yourself
Half of what we do in a basic service is work you can do at home with two or three tools. We have written up the ones worth learning: indexing gears at home, checking chain wear, and fixing a puncture properly. We would still rather you rode a well set up bike than gave us the money.
