Marlow Fields, since 2020
We service everyday bikes, build wheels by hand, and put together a handful of custom bikes a year. No showroom, no clothing rail, no upsell. Just two benches and the tools to do the job properly.
Same two mechanics, same bench, same phone number of a name on the door.
You will speak to the person who works on your bike, not a service desk.
You get a number and a reason for it. If it changes, we ring you first.
What we do
Every price below is what you pay for our time. Parts are extra and we tell you what they cost before we fit them.
The one most bikes need. Brakes, gears, tyres and bolts checked and set right.
Everything stripped, cleaned, measured and rebuilt. For a bike that has done a hard year.
The two things that actually stop you and get you up hills. Booked on their own.
Wheels trued while you wait, or built by hand from rim, hub and spokes you choose.
A bike put together around what you actually do with it, from a frame you bring or pick.
How it works
There is no online calendar and no deposit. It is a short email and then a time we both agree.
The full drop off and collection routine is written out on the workshop page, along with our opening hours.
Builds
We take on a handful of custom builds a year. Here are three, written out with the brief, the parts and what it actually cost.
A stripped frame from a loft, turned into something that survives a daily commute in the wet.
Built for six weeks of carrying everything, with parts that can be fixed at the side of a road.
Two children, a hill, and a brake spec we argued about for a week.
Who you are handing the bike to
Wheels, drivetrain, frame prep
Builds every wheel that leaves here by hand. Will happily spend an hour getting spoke tension even on a wheel nobody will ever look at.
Brakes, hydraulics, cargo and e bikes
Handles anything with fluid in it or a motor on it. Wrote most of the notes on this site, usually after explaining the same thing four times in a week.
Notes
Written down because we say them so often. All of it is stuff you can do at home with a couple of tools.
The question we get asked most, answered without trying to sell you a repair.
Two methods, five minutes, and why the number on the seat tube is not the answer.
A twelve pound tool that stops you buying a sixty pound cassette.
